Traditional Chinese (complementary) Medicine (TCM) and western medicine have very distinct underlying concept. Western medicine seeks to uncover a causative factor for a particular illness. TCM views the human body and its functioning in a holistic way. From this perspective, no single body part or symptom can be understood apart from its relation to the whole.
Thus, western medicine may be faster in its effects, but frequently at the expense of having side effects. Also, high incidences of tackling the symptoms (which look like causes) instead of the root of the illness. TCM, on the other hand, may see slower effect but more holistic and complete recovery in the end.
TCM looks at patterns of disharmony, and strives to maintain balance within the body and between the body and nature. Thus, treatment is individualized and geared toward assessing and treating the causes that compose patterns of deficiency and disharmony.

TCM is widely used worldwide. For example, although the exact number of people who use TCM in the United States is unknown, it was estimated in 1997 that some 10,000 practitioners served more than 1 million patients each year. According to the 2007 National Health Interview Survey, which included questions on the use of various CAM therapies, an estimated 3.1 million U.S. adults had used acupuncture in the previous year.
However, for safety reason, do opt for supplements that have been approved by health authority.

ReplyDeleteTraditional herbal medicines are based on the use of natural remedies like Herbs and Roots, no special food no lifestyle change to permanently cure drug resistance diseases. One main reason is due to patent. Most western drugs involve modified molecule, and this allows patent to be filed. However, traditional medicine such as herbs, involves only natural ingredients. That makes patent impossible because no one can claim right to a natural ingredient. Without patent, most big corporations are not willing to invest in traditional supplements.
